    This fully illustrated, hard-back volume of about 350 pages also includes several informative appendices, including lists of: Head Masters/Principals, Bursars, Governors, Teaching Staff, Senior Prefects, pupil numbers etc. An additional section of brief biographies is entitled Some Notable Old Monktonians.

    THE AUTHOR
    Peter J LeRoy MA
    OM Peter LeRoy was taught History in his first year at Monkton by AF Lace. A School Prefect, President of the Christian Union, Captain of Rugby and an oarsman, his fellow Sixth Form historians included Sir Richard Dearlove KCMG OBE, former Head of MI6, and Bernard Cornwell OBE, best-selling historical novelist. After studying for a History degree at Queens’ College, Cambridge, he taught at Radley College for 17 years, where he was a Housemaster. He was appointed Headmaster of Monkton Combe Junior School in 1984, was later elected Vice Chairman of the Independent Association of Preparatory Schools, but had to retire from headship in 1994 after a serious illness. His wife Angela had been appointed Acting Head for two terms. All three of their children were at Monkton Senior School. A Lay Reader and member of the Church of England’s General Synod for 25 years and of its Board of Education, Peter LeRoy has also served as a governor of several independent schools, a trustee of various Christian organisations, and editor of the Old Monktonian Gazette.
